On 26, numbers 66 and national disaster - There is no mystery here

Numerology again. Many of the media, not just the forums, mailing lists, twitter, facebook or infotainment, but also the mainstream media in Indonesia, raising news about the 26th, numbers 66 and the disaster that befell Indonesia. Is it true that a national disaster often occurs on the 26th? Let us examine the accuracy of this news together.Actually I did not intend to write this topic.

But because I got a lot of questions about it and see the news was still mention of this on television, so I decided to write it so that we get a more precise about the date of 26, numbers 66 and national disasters.Mentioned in the media (one of which is Legal. Click here) that the 26th has significance for national disasters generally occur on that date. The disasters that serve as examples are:Large Aceh tsunami that occurred on December 26, 2004. Then the earthquake that occurred on May 26, 2006. Then Tasikmalaya earthquake that occurred on June 26, 2010.

Mentawai tsunami that occurred on October 26, 2010. And with the tsunami was the eruption of Mount Merapi Mentawai on October 26, 2010.Because of this similarity, many people who think of 26 as the date of disaster specialists and have a mystical meaning. Then the question is, is it true that date has significance in relation to national disasters? The answer is: Not at all.Let's look at the disasters mentioned above one by one.Large Aceh tsunami that occurred in 2004 was right there on the 26th December. These events claimed more than 200,000 people and listed as one of the largest natural disasters in the world. Thus, this claim about accurate.

Well, the problem is the earthquake that occurred in 2006. This earthquake is not really occurred on May 26, but on May 27. You can check in the following wikipedia page. Click here. So, the earthquake could not be attributed to the 26th.Then, Tasikmalaya earthquake in 2010. This earthquake did occur on June 26. But the problem is this earthquake can not be called a natural disaster because of small magnitude earthquakes that occur and not cause any damage. You can check in from VIVAnews link below. Click here. Therefore, enter Tasikmalaya earthquake in June 2010 as a list of natural disasters do not fit at all.Next is the Mentawai Tsunami in 2010. Once again, the tsunami Mentawai not actually occurred on October 26, 2010, but dated October 25, 2010. You can check the link below kompas.com. Click here. Thus the Mentawai tsunami also has nothing to do with the date 26.Then, the last catastrophic eruption of Mount Merapi is alluded to in October 2010 yesterday. On this, its connection with the 26th could be debated. You see the real volcano has erupted and lava issued on 25 October, not October 26. One site containing news story is Jakartapost.com on October 25, 2010.The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Mon, 25/10/2010 4:44 PM

"Mount Merapi erupted Several times on Friday afternoon, spewing lava down its slopes Southern and Southeastern. Three major eruptions recorded were the resource persons at 2:04 pm, 2:24 pm and 3:15 pm, According to reports from Merapi monitors and as reported by kompas.com. "So, on 25 October, Merapi has been spewing lava 3 times, ie at 14:04, 14:24 and 15:15. Eruption on 26 October was the eruption was more memorable because of casualties due wedus trash. The conclusion is, of the five disaster-called associated with the 26th, only four events that can be called a disaster. And of 4, which happened on the 26th only one event, namely the tsunami in Aceh. So, linking disasters with the 26th altogether unwarranted. Moreover, we can always ask the critical to the makers of this news. Why are other major natural disasters such as the Padang earthquake, tsunami and floods Wasior Pangandaran not included? Though deaths due to disasters is also very much.Of course, since disasters do not happen on the 26th.Padang earthquake occurred on September 30, 2009. Pangandaran tsunami occurred on July 17, 2006 and Wasior flooding occurred on October 4, 2010. Moreover, if the eruption of Merapi in October 2010 mentioned, why the eruption of Merapi in 1994 and 2006 does not mention?Perhaps because in 1994, Merapi erupted on 22 November (27 fatalities) and in 2006, Merapi erupted on 19 April. So, once again, a national disaster in Indonesia is not only happening on the 26th.

In other words, this is an example of the excitement that is based on inaccurate data. Then, I found an interesting list of the media. To strengthen the argument about the link between September 26 with a major disaster, the media provide a list of 34 earthquakes, tsunamis and a second volcanic eruption that occurred on the 26th. This time the disaster that is listed is the disasters that occur worldwide between the years 1531 up to now. Here's a list of such disasters (I have to present this list so that you can understand what I mean):

24. May 26, 1975 earthquake in N. Atlantic

25. March 26, 1977 earthquake in Palu, Turkey

26. December 26, 1979 earthquake in Carlisle, England

27. April 26, 1981 earthquake in Westmorland, USA

28. May 26, 1983 earthquake in Nihonkai, Chubu, Japan

29. January 26, 1985 earthquake in Mendoza, Argentina

30. January 26, 1986 earthquake in Tres Pinos, USA

31. April 26, 1992 earthquake in the Cape Mendocino, California, USA

32. October 26, 1997 earthquake in Italy

33. December 26, 2004 Tsunami in Aceh

34. May 26, 2006 Yogyakarta Earthquake

35. June 26, 2010 Earthquake Tasik

36. October 26, 2010 Tsunami Mentawai

37. October 26, 2010 Merapi erupted.

If we only read at a glance, we will soon be amazed at how many disasters (earthquakes) that occurred on the 26th. But the problem is, this list is very misleading because it has been pulled out of the context. This is an example of how an "impression" may arise because they do not get the big picture. This list should be compared with the list of all earthquakes that occurred between the years 1500 to present. Thus the true picture can only be seen clearly.I'll give you an idea it is for you. However, we will only see the picture of the disaster that occurred on 20 and 21 century. So, we will eliminate up to No.7 no.1 disasters because disasters occurred prior to 1900.

Then, I will remove disaster No.33 to No.37 (which occurred in Indonesia) because I have already discussed above. Moreover, we do have to issue a volcanic eruption and tsunami disaster because the list contains all earthquakes. Now we have a list of 25 world earthquake that occurred on the 26th between the years 1900 to present. Is this amount enough so that we can think of 26 has a mystical meaning?Of course not. I will show you the statistics. On wikipedia, there is a special page that register earthquakes that occurred between 1900 until now. You can view the list by clicking here. In this list there is a 1316 earthquake that occurred in the whole world (not it amazing there are people who so diligently to make this list).

Then, I calculate the number of earthquakes based on the date of occurrence. Apparently the 1316 earthquake, which occurred on the 26th only comes up heads 50 times (more than 25 earthquakes in the list above). However, this amount is only 3.8% of the overall list.1316 earthquake was split almost evenly on all dates.Date of most of the earthquake was 14 (57 times - 4.33%). Then the second is dated 25 (55 times - 4.18%) and followed with 22 (54 times - 4.10%).The date is at least 31 earthquake, which occurred just as much as 26 times or 1.98%. This is reasonable because of 31 only appears 7 times in 1 year.On 26 ranks fourth with 21 and December 13.I convert this data into a chart to make it easier to see the percentage of each date. The result: a very beautiful wheel.

Arrangement of colors on the wheel indicates that there is no date that dominate the disaster. All received its quota of each.Well, now, still believe that the 26th is the date of disaster specialists? Now, briefly about the number 66.People started linking number 66 because it calculates the distance between the earthquake in Yogyakarta on August 21, 2010 until the eruption of Merapi, dated October 26, 2010, which if summed have an interval of 66 days. This also is moot because if we relied on the initial eruption of Merapi, which is on 25, then the interval day to 65 instead of 66.If we count from the date of Merapi ask casualties, then there is a 66-day intervals. Then, the spectacular is, number 66 is then connected with the name Mbah Marijan, the gatekeeper of Mount Merapi, which is by counting the names in alphabetical order and add them up.M = 13, A = 1, R = 18, I = 9, J = 10, A = 1, N = 14If you add up, we get the total number = 66.The count is correct. But the problem is one. Mbah Marijan writing the correct name is Maridjan, not Marijan. Spelling of the name "Maridjan" can you see the sign on his house.

if using the name "Maridjan", then we get the number 70.Then corrupted to do with the number 66.Numerology is interesting. In many cultures, such as Chinese culture, for example, numerology plays an important enough. This article is not intended to oppose a particular public trust. I'm just trying to assess the news with more objective. Thank you.Notes: You can check the list of major earthquakes in Indonesia from the following earthquake.usgs.gov site. And you can see if the 26th does not dominate such disasters.
