Mayan calendar and 2012 - the debate and controversy
For several years now we are presented with a new discourse, the Mayan calendar and the end of 2012. Every time we read about this in the media, we always made to believe that the Mayans predicted the world will end in 2012.
Is it true that they predicted it?

This paper is a continuation of my previous writings about the Mayan calendar. If you have not read it, I recommend you to read it first to understand the contents of this second article, so click the Mayan Calendar and 2012 - an explanation.

Ranging from Hollywood movies, books, websites, newspapers until the forecast on television advertisements using the name to refer to the Mayan doomsday prophecy 2012. But perhaps many of you who do not know that the Mayans never actually said that the end will occur in 2012.Yes, you did not mishear.

Apocalypse 2012 is an interpretation issued by some foreign researchers who study the Maya. With the combination of an efficient marketing, this interpretation is spread throughout the world. The effect, besides the flow of money, is the fear among ordinary people.Actually, this interpretation has been from the beginning opposed by other researchers. However, we understand, the media will proclaim only the most controversial theory.
So I would like to discuss this topic with a view of opposing viewpoints.Although it seems a scene, all this time I saw 2012 only as a discourse and archaeological interpretation. Not as a religious interpretation. So, if you read this, look at it that way too. Let's just say we're reading one among dozens of theories arekeologi tucked in our school textbooks. To be fair, given that the 2012 interpretation comes from the "Mayan expert", then I will invite you to see the rejection that also came from the "expert tribe virtual" other. They studied the same inscription, they studied the same tribe and calendar.

So I think, fair enough.Arguments against the interpretation of 2012 come from different interpretations of Mayan relics. To prevent this paper into long, I will only mention three of them which I think is the best argument, namely:1. Tortuguero Monument Inscription2. Implementation of the Long Count of different3. The elements of the higher calendar

 Tortuguero Monument Inscription

As I mentioned in my previous article about the explanation of the Mayan calendar that dated December 21, 2012 arising from the expiration of the creation of the 4th Long Count calendar, named after the 13th baktun. I also mentioned that one of the sources who called about 13 baktun this is the book vox popul. However, there was another source that is more often used by researchers to indicate the end of the world after 13 baktun, the Tortuguero monument from the 7th century AD. On the monument is engraved a number of writings whose content glorifies the Maya rulers at that time.

An expert on the Maya named Mark Van Stone managed to translate some of the inscription on the monument and one sentence is:"The Thirteenth [b'ak'tun] Will end. Black ... Will occur. (It Will be) the descent of Bolon Yookte 'K'uh to the great (or red )...""13 baktun will end. Dark (black) .. will appear. (It signifies) decrease Bolon Yookte K'uh"

Some researchers say that this is the prediction of world end in 2012. However, other researchers have a different opinion.

The key, according to them there on behalf of foreign "Bolon Yookte K'uh". three said it was strange that the name of a god in some ancient references are often referred to as a god or gods of war conflicts. Therefore, it is ambiguous to interpret the end of the 13th baktun to the end of the world. It could be meant by the monument was just an incident of war, and even then if the translation is done Mark Van Stone accurate.  Because
Tortuguero monument has suffered heavy damage. Sentences that are legible are minimal and vague.David Stuart, a specialist in Maya writing from the University of Texas even totally disagree with the interpretation of a disaster or a war of this monument.

"In 2012 the monument was meant was the anniversary of creation. The Maya never said that the world will end, they also never say that something bad will happen. They simply noted the anniversary of the monument which will come" So says David.Interesting is not it?

Implementation of the Long Count calendar different

According to the theory of Judgement, 2012, the 4th cycle of the Long Count will end after the 13th baktun. But this is where new problems arise.

The Maya turns out to have other ancient inscriptions stating that the 4th cycle will expire on the 20th baktun, baktun to-13 instead. And this seems to be ignored by the adherents of Judgement 2012.If the cycle to a 4-baktun ends on the 20th, then this cycle will end in 4772, not 2012. This was confirmed by the application of the Long Count calendar different in various Mayan cities. In Palenque, the evidence suggests that the cycle of creation to-4 will expire after 20 baktun, 13 baktun not. Elsewhere, a monument erected to commemorate the coronation of the coronation of the king Pakal connect with events up to 4,000 years after the coronation. That is, the monument does not indicate the end of the world in 2012.If the Maya was referring to the end of the world, should not they agree with the period-4 cycle to end?

The elements of higher Calendar

In my previous writings, I have alluded to the five elements of the Long Count calendar. To remember it again, these elements:

1 kin = 1 day
1 uinal = 20 kin
1 tun = 18 uinal
1 cotton = 20 tun
1 baktun = 20 cotton

But did you know that in addition to the five elements above, the Mayans also had a higher four elements namely piktun, kalabtun, kinchiltun and alautun. Although these four elements are seldom used, but its existence can not be ignored. So if we write it in full, then the elements of the Mayan calendar will look like this:1 kin = 1 day
1 uinal = 20 kin
1 tun = 18 uinal
1 cotton = 20 tun
1 baktun = 20 cotton
1 piktun = 20 baktun
1 kalabtun = 20 piktun
1 kinchiltun = 20 kalabtun
1 alautun = 20 kinchiltuns

Indeed, scientists are still divided on the question whether piktun (elements above baktun) baktun will begin on the 13th or the 20th, but at least they agree on the existence of elements is higher.Do the math, if alautun is the last element and the end will occur after 1 alautun course, in what the world will end?I will give clues to help you, that is 1 baktun = 144,000 days.

Try counting slowly, the result does not need to email it to me.

 How do we view it?

Susan Milbraith, curator at the Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History said, "We as part of the archaeological community has no record that the Mayans thought the world would end in 2012."Other Mayan expert, Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Florida says: "For the Maya, the end of a calendar cycle is something that we will celebrate a grand scale.""Assuming that the date December 21, 2012 as the Day of Resurrection is a fabrication and a chance for some people to make money." She added.

Speech Milbraith and Noble seems also confirmed by some Maya communities in highland Guetamala. In my previous writings about the cause of the destruction of Mayan culture, I say that the descendants of the Mayans some 7 million people are still scattered in the territory of Central America today. Of the many groups that spread, it turns out there are still some groups that still follow the procedures for culture of their ancestors, including the use of an ancient calendar long count.Surprisingly, this Maya community groups do not do any preparation to welcome the end of 2012

.Do they KNOW that the world WILL NOT end in 2012?Or rather, they VERY KNOW that the world WILL NOT end in 2012?Or they do not care at all?2012 doomsday phenomenon to me exactly like a scene on television:Two politicians were arguing with the exclamation, that one said, "people want this", the other one said, "No, people want this.".At home, people who were watching said to himself, "No, they're both wrong, that's not what I want, After all they never asked me what I want!"About the Mayan calendar, it looks like some stranger who claimed to have examined the ancient Maya inscriptions have been spreading their own interpretation without asking Mayanya own tribe.Apolinario Chile Pixtun, a Mayan elders in Guetamala complain about it. He claimed tired of being asked about the December 21, 2012. According to him, the idea came from the 2012 western people, not from the Mayans.

Jose Huchim, a Maya archaeologist said, "If we go to the Mayan community and ask about what will happen in 2012, they would not know it. And if thou say to them that the world will end in 2012, surely they will not trust you . "In November last year, a movie called "2012" immediately stormed the cinemas in Indonesia and almost certainly will soon become the world's box office. And if you go to the bookstore, you will find books with topics ranging from the 2012 original to that just cheated on display in the main shelves.

Looks like it This is a discourse that is exhaled by a brilliant marketing technique! If this is all marketing, whether we will let our lives be affected by it? of course not! But, if we will allow ourselves to be influenced by it, then I hope, the influence that makes us better human, at least until December 2012.So keep following this blog!
